Our next Development party is an extra special one, as we are celebrating the ascension of resident DJ Tom Lynch into the world of music production. Tom under his production moniker Tomson and his mate Benedict have had a recent flurry of releases which has led to their first artist EP release on one of the biggest house labels going, Freerange Records. In order to assure a rave up of appropriate proportions for this mammoth musical event we have enlisted the boss of Freerange, who is also one of the UKs top house DJs and producers along to play at Development alongside Tomson, Benedict and Development resident Chris Feinmann who has so far been too lazy to start making music. We are really looking forward to this as Jimpster is an absolute killer DJ, those who saw him take the roof off with his recent set at Southport Weekender will know this. We also like him very much for naming one of his tracks Dangly Panther.

Here is a bit of info about Jimpster, and Tomson and Benedicts absolutely phenomenal release on Freerange Records, Rainy Things.

Jimpster

Jamie Odell aka Jimpster and Audiomontage has been producing, remixing and DJing for the last 17 years and co-running his Freerange Records (voted Best BritishLabel 2007) label for the last 13 of those. His musical upbringing and early introduction to production and DJing have helped him forge a sound that is at once warm and deep as well as being innovative and club friendly.

His seminal Jimpster LP Messages From The Hub (1997), as well as his more dancefloor orientated Audiomontage 12"s really helped establish Jamie as an artist of some merit and he quickly became in regular demand as a remixer (over 65 at the last count!) and co producer on a wide range of underground projects. His third Jimpster LP Amour was released 3 years ago on Freerange to excellent critical acclaim and appeared in numerous published Top 20 LP's of the year charts. In recent years he has released his first original track for another label, choosing Ben Watt's Buzzin' Fly for Square Up which became a big underground house track sitting in the top 5 of DJ Mag's Hype Chart for 2 months. His most recent 12"s for Freerange include Dangly Panther, which was nominated for Best Dance Single 2008 in the coveted DJ Mag Best Of British Awards, and most recently the lush grooving deepness of Sleeper.

Recent artists to get the Jimpster midas touch in the form of a remix include Osunlade, Bob Marley, Joris Voorn, Seal, Mark Knight & Funkagenda, Marc Romboy, Solomun... the list goes on. Jamie has also built up his reputation as a
highly regarded dj in the UK and around the world. With an emphasis on the deeper end of electronic house music, but not afraid to stray from the path, he retains an old school approach that has seen him booked for gigs as
diverse as Fabric (London), Panarama Bar (Berlin), racoon (Frankfurt), Cielo (NYC), Yellow (Tokyo), Pacha (Ibiza), Crystal (Istanbul), GOA (Madrid) and Back To Basics (Leeds), and AKA & The End (London).

Tomson & Benedict

Tomson & Benedict are a Manchester based production/DJ duo whose partnership spawns a mutated deep house sound representing the morphing of old school house, garage and techno with future-thinking electronic synths and programming. With just a sprinkling of production work involving names such as Paul Randolph, Atjazz, Flowriders and Paris Brightledge these two young upstarts are certainly starting to make a name for themselves so we've stepped in quick to sign the duo up for their debut solo EP entitled Rainy Things.

In it's Telepathy Dub incarnation Tomson and Benedict go way old school with Chandleresque bass, smoothly building layers of arpeggiating synths and an intense and energetic vibe that belies its crisp and simple deep house groove.

Next it's Jimpsters turn for the remix, and here we see him take a slightly darker route by loosening up the beats, introducing some wobbling synth lines and doing away with the modulating chords in favour of a more reduced feel. This is warm, fat and dare we say enchanting stuff for the warm up.

Finally we have the original mix of Rainy Things which is a simply sublime slice of halcyon House, dripping with sun-soaked strings and contrary to what it's title suggests, purpose built for the long, lazy and hazy summer parties ahead.
